KindCare’s History

KindCare was founded in 2009 during the early years of Colorado’s medical cannabis program. At the time, there was a clear need for safe, reliable access for patients, and KindCare was established to help meet that need. Located on College Avenue in Fort Collins, the dispensary quickly became a convenient and trusted destination for members of the community.

The early years of the industry brought significant challenges. In 2011, a city-wide vote in Fort Collins forced dispensaries to close, creating nearly two years of uncertainty. KindCare was able to reopen in 2013 and continue serving patients. In 2016, the company reached another important milestone when it received its license to sell recreational cannabis.

As the business continued to grow, KindCare expanded its physical space to better serve its customers. In 2019, the company moved from its original 900-square-foot storefront into a newly built facility designed specifically for dispensary operations. The new location features a dedicated check-in area, six recreational registers, an expanded medical room, and a convenient online order pickup area.

Expansion has also taken place on the cultivation side of the business. In the summer of 2022, KindCare acquired the former Thermal Concepts property and redeveloped it into a 10,000-square-foot cultivation facility. In 2024, the company further expanded its cultivation capacity by purchasing Vert’s former cultivation facility. In 2025, KindCare introduced an updated brand identity that reflects the company’s continued growth and evolution.

The owner of KindCare holds a business degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and has a professional background in financial banking and business management. Prior to entering the cannabis industry, he spent ten years as the business manager for a landscape and maintenance company. After that experience, he chose to pursue their own venture and relocate to Northern Colorado to establish KindCare.

About us staff and flowers

The company began with very modest resources. With $8,000 in savings, the initial investment covered the first and last month’s rent as well as the purchase of a single pound of cannabis. KindCare opened its doors in the third week of October and was able to generate enough revenue in the remaining days of the month to pay the following month’s rent. Nearly seventeen years later, the business continues to operate successfully.

A key factor in KindCare’s longevity has been the dedication of its team. When the dispensary opened in 2009, the legal cannabis industry was still in its infancy, and there were no established models to follow. The team built their knowledge through experience, becoming part of the pioneering group of early cannabis operators in Colorado. Over the years, that commitment has helped KindCare develop a strong and loyal customer base.

FAQ's

What is the difference between THC and CBD?

THC and CBD are both compounds found in cannabis, but they have different effects on the body. THC is the main psychoactive component in cannabis, which means that it is responsible for the “high” feeling that people experience when they use cannabis. THC can also have other effects on the body, such as reducing pain and inflammation, stimulating appetite, and inducing relaxation. CBD, on the other hand, does not have psychoactive effects and does not produce a “high”. Instead, CBD has been shown to have potential therapeutic benefits, such as reducing anxiety, inflammation, and seizures. It is important to note that both THC and CBD can have different effects on different people, and the effects may vary depending on the amount and method of consumption.

How does cannabis affect driving?

Cannabis use can impair coordination, reaction time, and judgment, making it dangerous to drive under the influence. It is important to avoid driving after using cannabis and to wait until the effects have worn off.

How long does the high from cannabis last?

The duration of the high from cannabis depends on various factors, such as the method of consumption, the potency of the product, and the individual’s tolerance. Typically, the effects can last anywhere from a few hours to several hours.

How long does cannabis stay in your system?

The amount of time that cannabis stays in your system depends on various factors, such as the frequency and amount of use, the method of consumption, and your metabolism. THC, the main psychoactive component in cannabis, can be detected in urine for up to 30 days in heavy users, while it may only be detectable for a few days in occasional users. Blood and saliva tests may detect THC for a shorter period of time, usually up to a few hours or days. It is important to note that these detection times are approximate and can vary depending on individual factors.

Is cannabis legal?

The legality of cannabis varies depending on where you live. Some countries and states have legalized cannabis for medical or recreational use, while others have strict laws prohibiting its use.

How is cannabis consumed?

Cannabis can be consumed in a variety of ways, including smoking, vaping, edibles, and tinctures. Each method has its own unique effects and duration. It is important to choose a method that works best for you and to start with a low dosage.

What are the potential benefits of using cannabis?

Some people use cannabis to alleviate symptoms of various medical conditions, such as chronic pain, anxiety, and insomnia. Others use it for recreational purposes to relax or have fun.

What are the different types of cannabis?

There are three main types of cannabis: sativa, indica, and hybrid. Sativa strains are typically uplifting and energizing, while indica strains are more relaxing and sedating. Hybrid strains are a combination of the two.
