Actively Involved in our Community

KindCare is proud to be part of the communities we call home. Being involved locally matters to us, and we believe a business should contribute to the place it operates – not just serve customers. We focus on responsible consumption, operating with integrity, and building real connections with the people who walk through our doors. Our goal has always been to be a positive presence in the neighborhoods we’re part of.

Community support is something we actively prioritize through partnerships, donations, and participation in local events. Over the years, we’ve been grateful to work with and support organizations such as the Food Bank for Larimer County, Hope Lives, Ensight Skills Center, Sound Affects Music, and the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association.

The Longmont location supports the Longmont Humane Society via charitable donations. KindCare as a whole also enjoys supporting the music and arts community throughout Northern Colorado. This includes events like Meeting on the Mountain at The Armory, the Arise Music Festival, and live shows at venues like Hodi’s Half Note and the Aggie Theatre. Other events we’ve been proud to support include Gratitude: A NoCo Firefighter Fundraiser and UpLift FoCo.

Beyond that, we’ve helped support a variety of local sports and wellness efforts, including the Sugar Beets Women’s Cycling Team, B-Bold Adaptive athletes, local men’s soccer leagues, the Break Free Fitness Festival, and even our own company softball team. For us, staying connected to the community means supporting the many different groups that help make it strong.

KindCare’s History

KindCare first opened its doors in 2009, during the early days of Colorado’s medical cannabis industry. At the time, safe and reliable access for patients was still limited, and we set out to help fill that need. Our location on College Avenue in Fort Collins made it easy for people in the community to find us and quickly became home base for the business.

Like many early dispensaries, the road wasn’t always easy. In 2011, Fort Collins held a city-wide vote that temporarily forced dispensaries to close. After nearly two years of uncertainty, KindCare was able to reopen in 2013 and continue serving the community. A few years later, in 2016, we reached another major milestone when we received our license to sell recreational cannabis.

As the business grew, so did our space. In 2019, we built the dispensary our customers visit today, moving from a small 900-square-foot storefront into a much larger building. The new space includes a dedicated check-in area, six recreational registers, an expanded medical room, and a convenient pickup area for online orders.

Growth continued behind the scenes as well. In 2022, we expanded our cultivation operations by acquiring the former Thermal Concepts property and transforming it into a 10,000-square-foot cultivation facility. Two years later, in 2024, we added another cultivation site by purchasing Vert’s former facility, further increasing our ability to grow and produce. In 2025, we introduced the refreshed KindCare brand you see today.

KindCare’s owner brings a background in finance and business management, with a business degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and experience working in financial banking. Before entering the cannabis industry, he spent a decade managing the business side of a landscape and maintenance company. Eventually, the opportunity to start something new—and relocate to Northern Colorado—led to the decision to open a dispensary.

The early days required a lot of grit. KindCare started with just $8,000 in savings, which covered the first and last month’s rent and the purchase of a single pound of cannabis. The doors opened in the third week of October, and the business managed to earn enough in the remaining days of the month to pay November’s rent. Nearly 17 years later, KindCare is still going strong.

Much of that success comes down to the team behind the business. When we started in 2009, there was no roadmap for running a cannabis company. Everyone involved had to learn the industry from the ground up. That hands-on experience helped shape the culture of KindCare, and over the years it’s helped us build a loyal following that continues to support us today.

FAQ's

What is the difference between THC and CBD?

THC and CBD are both compounds found in cannabis, but they have different effects on the body. THC is the main psychoactive component in cannabis, which means that it is responsible for the “high” feeling that people experience when they use cannabis. THC can also have other effects on the body, such as reducing pain and inflammation, stimulating appetite, and inducing relaxation. CBD, on the other hand, does not have psychoactive effects and does not produce a “high”. Instead, CBD has been shown to have potential therapeutic benefits, such as reducing anxiety, inflammation, and seizures. It is important to note that both THC and CBD can have different effects on different people, and the effects may vary depending on the amount and method of consumption.

How does cannabis affect driving?

Cannabis use can impair coordination, reaction time, and judgment, making it dangerous to drive under the influence. It is important to avoid driving after using cannabis and to wait until the effects have worn off.

How long does the high from cannabis last?

The duration of the high from cannabis depends on various factors, such as the method of consumption, the potency of the product, and the individual’s tolerance. Typically, the effects can last anywhere from a few hours to several hours.

How long does cannabis stay in your system?

The amount of time that cannabis stays in your system depends on various factors, such as the frequency and amount of use, the method of consumption, and your metabolism. THC, the main psychoactive component in cannabis, can be detected in urine for up to 30 days in heavy users, while it may only be detectable for a few days in occasional users. Blood and saliva tests may detect THC for a shorter period of time, usually up to a few hours or days. It is important to note that these detection times are approximate and can vary depending on individual factors.

Is cannabis legal?

The legality of cannabis varies depending on where you live. Some countries and states have legalized cannabis for medical or recreational use, while others have strict laws prohibiting its use.

How is cannabis consumed?

Cannabis can be consumed in a variety of ways, including smoking, vaping, edibles, and tinctures. Each method has its own unique effects and duration. It is important to choose a method that works best for you and to start with a low dosage.

What are the potential benefits of using cannabis?

Some people use cannabis to alleviate symptoms of various medical conditions, such as chronic pain, anxiety, and insomnia. Others use it for recreational purposes to relax or have fun.

What are the different types of cannabis?

There are three main types of cannabis: sativa, indica, and hybrid. Sativa strains are typically uplifting and energizing, while indica strains are more relaxing and sedating. Hybrid strains are a combination of the two.
